Department of General Linguistics
Department of General Linguistics embarked on its activities as the department of general linguistics and ancient cultures in 1964. From the beginning of the educational year of 1991-92 the department of general linguistics was separated from the department of ancient cultures and languages. This department accepts MA and Ph.D. students. The six-membered faculty of this department consists of four professors and two assistant professors.
An Introduction to the major
The scientific study of human's language and the description of the patterns and rules governing it are the tasks of Linguistics students. In this major language is studied through structural, societal, cultural, literary, educational, psychological, biological, and other perspectives. The graduates of this major may be employed in universities, education and research institutes, and other organizations to work in the following fields:
• Education: taking courses related to linguistics
• Research: collaboration with the Academy of Persian Language and Literature, Lexicography, study of dialects, translation, editing and research on Persian textbooks of different levels
• Consulting: giving advice on upbringing, rehabilitation, computer and communication engineering, education, and preservation of cultural heritage
